🏹 Chiron Necklace - an ode to the wounded healer myth, archetype, and astrological placement. This necklace is handcrafted with sterling silver discs, reclaimed by hand in my studio, hand-textured, adorned with a hand-sawn Chiron and North Star, and set with a natural, faceted Montana sapphire in a teal hue. The necklace chain has two natural Emerald Valley turquoises. It can be worn at 18, 20, or 22 inches. Oxidized satin finish for an old world feel.

In ancient Greek mythology, Chiron was the wisest & justest of all centaurs. Accidentally wounded by a poisoned arrow fired by his friend Heracles, Chiron lived in unbearable & incurable pain. Yet, being the son of a god, he was immortal. Seeking to give meaning to his interminable suffering, he devoted himself to the healing arts and became a master healer and teacher, earning himself the title of “the wounded healer”. After lifetimes of suffering, a deal was struck with Zeus, in which Chiron sacrificed his immortality in exchange for the release of his friend Prometheus, who had been tethered to a rock for all eternity as punishment for stealing fire from the gods to give to humanity. Chiron was thus able to free himself of his pain through self sacrifice and service to others. He was immortalized in the heavens as the constellation Sagittarius.

In Jungian psychology, the wounded healer archetype draws on Chiron’s story, illuminating the paradoxical and dualistic nature of the human condition: that it’s through experiencing pain, grief, and deep wounding, that we learn to heal, integrate, and cultivate compassion & empathy.

In evolutionary astrology, Chiron represents our core wound, which is of course, our divine teacher and most powerful catalyst for healing & transformation.

All handcrafted using traditional silversmithing techniques, with my own two hands and a lot of heart and soul. Each North Star Silver order comes lovingly packaged and ready for gift-giving.
